Multiple Entry Possible UAE-Oman-UAE-Oman-UAE, with rental car. Sun, 23 Sep 2012 20:26:24 +000011.9kSun, 11 Mar 2012 16:13:27 +0000 Hi TT community, Have a trip coming up in late April where i`m flying into Dubai, plan on renting a car and driving to Musandum area of Oman, back into UAE, into mainland Oman and then back to UAE for a flight out, all within 10-14 days or so. I`m Australian nationality. 1.) Has anyone done a trip like this recently? Is it possible to transit between Oman and UAE this many times without any border control issues? Ie, can a stamp from either UAE or Oman be used for multiple entries within the requisite time period? If not, is a multiple entry visa in advance required for both/either countries? 2.) I plan on doing such a trip with a rented car from UAE (Dubai). Can anyone confirm its possible to take a UAE rental car into Oman and back to UAE (on two separate occasions)? Is any additional paperwork required, or additional insurance have to be purchased? 3.) One further question, but I`m on a budget and plan on sleeping in the car/camping, as i assume petrol/local food is cheap and accommodation is expensive in both countries. Anyone done something like this recently? Can anyone confirm UAE/Oman is generally fine for camping on a beach, etc, and you`re not likely to get hassle from the police? Stuff left in vehicles is (generally) safe in both countries? If you are camping out, can u grab a paid shower at a roadhouse anywhere, or is this not really done as it is in Oz. Any thoughts/tips on any of these are much appreciated in advance. I think the departure tax leaving UAE is 30 dirhams and last time I went into Oman the visa was 20 rials, I think you`d have to pay that each time but I`m not sure. Not all rental companies will let you take a car from the UAE into Oman so you have to be sure to check that with them first. You`ll have to pay extra insurance. I`ve never had any problems wild camping in either country, mountains and countryside in Oman and beach in the UAE. I`ve never encountered police in Oman but all those I`ve come into contact with in the UAE have been really nice. To the extent of going off and buying me breakfast and water while my car was waiting for a tow and stopping to check I was ok as I was camped on the beach in May and it was so hot the locals had long since gone indoors. The short term (<14 days) visa for Oman is now reduced to OR5 (since 3 weeks ago), and I dont think there is a departure tax for the UAE, although I might be wrong as I haven`t left the UAE on a tourist visa for a very long time. Yes you can use a UAE rental car for the whole trip, (but they will charge you extortionate insurance charges), and you need to inform them in advance and get the paperwork sorted so that its ready when you collect the car. They need to give you a letter stating that they allow you to take the car out of the country, confirmation of the Oman insurance coverage, and make sure you have a copy of the car registration. Its almost impossible to do this with any of the cheaper local rental agencies as they expect to hold your passport as security on the car, so you pretty much have to use one of the big chains. Yes yes and yes on the petrol, food and accomm costs.Oman is definitely fine for camping on beaches (or anywhere else once you`re out of Muscat). The Dubai police tend not to like people "camping" in cars within the city, so if you plan to sleep on the beaches, better to be out at the Jebel Ali end of town, rather than up in Jumeirah. Stuff left in vehicles is generally extremely safe.
